2892 Miles to Go
2022 - Present
The ground-breaking project, 2892 Miles To Go, tells the untold stories of the 2892 miles across the United States.
All places have stories. All stories have a place. 2892 Miles to Go highlights those stories that have been untold for far too long.
Using Esri’s ArcGIS StoryMaps, this project focuses on storytellers in five locations, each one opening the door to a narrative often hidden from others. These “digital textbooks” are designed to be used in classrooms, helping students understand other narratives beside those in their regular textbooks.
We first collaborated with 2892 St. Paul, telling the story of Rondo, the vibrant community that survived and thrived after a major freeway destroyed many houses and businesses owned by a stable, long-standing African-American community. We connected this story to educators, holding professional development events and creating geospatial based activities for students.
As 2892 Miles to Go evolved, Mapping Together continued to partner to develop programs for youth to engage in place-based learning. We have conducted summer programs for youth to explore their community through the We-Win Institute and the JK Movement. Check out the awesome things our youth have said!
