2892 Minnesota

2892 Miles To Go is a place-based education program that facilitates collaboration between youth, educators, and leaders to co-create solutions to address environmental, social, and cultural issues impacting their communities.

The 2892 Minnesota Team works with Youth Storytellers from We Win Institute and The JK Movement to explore place through a variety of lenses and perspectives.

Youth at We-Win heard stories from people who moved to Minnesota from countries in West Africa. Youth were able to ask all sorts of questions, try foods and learn dances. Youth also learned Swahili words, phrases and songs.

Youth at the JK Movement learned about “Slanting the Playing Field: The Breakdown, Persistence, and Evolution of the Rondo Community” , a powerful, raw and honest look at the Rondo community’s strength, resilience and continuity in the face of continuous pressure that was In written in 2021 by a group of people who grew up in the Rondo community in the 1980s. They learned more about their neighborhood and they learned that they, too, were historians.
